COVID-19 Facts and Figures

We have yet to understand the full health, economic, and social impact of COVID-19 since the first case was reported in January of this year. Experts predict that as of April 8, 2020, California has yet to hit its peak and that death numbers will continue to rise, even with the assumption that social distancing will continue through May. 

Without a doubt, Coronavirus is highly contagious. While our elderly citizens have the highest risk of death, we are all at risk of falling ill with this virus. Over 7,000 of California’s cases are amongst people ages 18-49, a significant portion of the nearly 17,000 cases reported in California. 

Since early March, almost none of the reported cases have had anything to do with travel outside of the United States. This fact means that the virus is spreading from close contact within our local communities and homes. There are likely thousands of undiagnosed cases in California and the greater United States. Hospitals are running low on tests, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is becoming more and more scarce. 

We all must take the threats of this pandemic seriously. Our families, livelihoods, economic growth, and recovery are all dependent on stopping the spread of COVID-19.
