Jack lived in a pleasant condominium community with comfortable residences set in duplexes on tree-lined streets complete with statuesque palm trees. The community was located in a suburb of San Diego. In his carport was a vintage car from a few decades earlier, one of his favorite possessions and that he literally kept under wraps to best protect its well maintained and preserved condition.
Divorced, Jack’s ex-wife lives out of state as do his two daughters. With that said, Jack had a cordial relationship with his former spouse, talked to his daughters regularly, and saw his children in person throughout any given year.
As is the case with many families in this day and age, and despite the availability of tremendous communication technologies. from time-to-time, several days would pass during which Jack didn’t have contact with one or another of his daughters or his ex-wife. Such was the case at the end of the summer and the beginning of fall 2023.
After this passage of time, which was less than a week at best, Jack’s daughters and wife visited and realized none of them had spoken with the name for a few days. No one was precisely certain when was the last time they spoke with Jack. At this juncture, the trio of women began a concerted effort to connect with Jack and failed in that endeavor.
At this point in time, Jack’s family contacted local police in San Diego. The family requested that the police undertake a welfare check at Jack’s residence. A welfare check, also known as a wellness check, is a visit or contact made by authorities like the police to ensure the well-being and safety of an individual. It is typically done in response to concerns about the person’s physical or mental health, or when their whereabouts are unknown. The purpose of a welfare check is to assess the person’s situation, provide any necessary assistance or support, and intervene if there is evidence of abuse, neglect, or endangerment.
Welfare or Wellness Check at Jack’s Home
When the police came to the residence, Jack did not respond to their ringing the doorbell and knocking on the door. The police had the permission of Jack’s daughters to enter the home, which they did. Nearly immediately, they found Jack’s remains on the floor of a bathroom in the residence. It was clear upon immediate, cursory examination of the scene that Jack had been dead for a matter of three or four days.
Ultimately, the county coroner determined that Jack in fact had been deceased for approximately three days. Moreover, the medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was a heart attack.
Need for Professional Unattended Death Cleanup Assistance
What a good many people do not necessarily realize is that the human decomposition process starts at the moment of death. Without becoming too graphic, the human body begins to break down as soon as blood stops circulating. In little over a day’s time, evidence of the decomposition process can be seen in such things as a change in skin color to the beginning of bloating of the remains themselves. Within about three days, biohazardous liquids and foul-smelling gases begin to be released from the remains. In short speed, the human decomposition process arising from an unattended death such as Jack’s can result in the contamination of the scene of the passing with biohazards that can pose a threat to others and can significantly impact the livability of a residence in which this type of death occurred.
The coroner’s office did explain to Jack’s family that the need did exist for thorough cleaning and biohazard remediation of the bathroom once the man’s remains were removed from the property. As a consequence, the family contacted Eco Bear to undertake this necessary unattended death cleaning and biohazard remediation at Jack’s home. The family also requested that Eco Bear deal with any trash that remained in the residence (like in the kitchen bin). In addition, the family asked Eco Bear to deal with whatever was left behind in the refrigerator.
Eco Bear is committed to providing families like Jack’s with the most reliable and comprehensive professional cleanup and remediations services at the most reasonable price possible. (The company beats out the competition when it comes to fees for services – and oftentimes does so by charging 50 percent less than what other companies charge.) In this case, based on the description of the scene and the estimate of how long Jack’s remains were in the premises, Eco Bear charged a flat fee of $2,000 for its professional services.
Eco Bear was able to fully address the aftermath of Jack’s unfortunate passing. The residence was restored to a fully livable condition. Indeed, through the work of Eco Bear, the home was positioned to be placed on the market for sale, should that be an objective of Jack’s family in the aftermath of his passing.
