Random Act of Violence in Temecula Store Takes Resident’s Life

The violent crime rate in Temecula is on par or even a bit lower than what is found on average in the state of California. With that said, there have been incidents of violent crime in the community that has given people from all walks of life in Temecula pause. One such incident involved the wholly random murder of a woman in a Temecula drug store.

On an otherwise uneventful summer day, a 54-year old woman and her adult daughter stopped into a Temecula CVS drug store to do a bit of shopping. While in the store, the woman and her daughter encountered a 33-year old man named Brian Saylor.

Saylor was at a cash register next to the one where the women were checking out. Saylor appeared to be looking for money in his wallet to pay for a bottle of whiskey he desired to purchase.

Without any warning, let alone any provocation, Saylor picked up the large whiskey bottled and slammed it into the back of the older woman’s head. The woman collapsed to the floor, unconscious. She would die from the assault.

After the assault, Saylor casually walked out of the store, taking a position outside in front of the entrance. He lit up a cigarette and awaited the arrival of the Riverside Country Sheriff deputies.

The investigation revealed that Saylor had no prior connection whatsoever to the woman he killed. In addition, there was no interaction between them in the drug store. In short, Saylor’s murder of the woman was a completely random act of violence.

Saylor was charged with first-degree murder. He was put on trial, the jury was deadlocked. He was retried and convicted. Upon his conviction, Saylor was sentenced to a term of incarceration of 25 years to life.

Biohazard Cleanup in Temecula

There are different types of incidents and situations that occur in homes and places of business in the city that can give rise to the need for biohazard cleanup in Temecula. These include:

  • Homicides
  • Suicides
  • Assaults
  • Unattended deaths
  • Rat infestation

These types of incidents and situations can result in the presence of blood, bodily fluids, and other biological materials. Blood and bodily fluids can contain what are known as dangerous pathogens. These pathogens include bacteria and viruses that can result in serious and even deadly diseases. These include:

  • HIV
  • MRSA
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C

The presence of blood and other bodily fluids at a scene of an incident like a homicide or suicide can expose a person to the risk of infection. The risk exists when an individual is faced with a biohazard cleanup process. As a result, in the aftermath of an incident like a homicide or suicide, a person needs to think hard and seriously about engaging the services of a biohazard cleanup professional.

A biohazard cleanup professional employs a comprehensive, four-phase process to address the aftermath of an incident that gives rise to the potential presence of hazardous biological pathogens. These phases are:

  • General cleanup
  • Sanitization
  • Deodorization
  • Restoration

The ultimate goal or objective is to restore the business or residential premises to a safe, fully usable condition.

Another reason why professional assistance is advisable is because of the emotional elements associated with cleaning up after a traumatic event. When a family member or other loved one dies in a violent manner, or when the remains of a body aren’t found immediately, the emotional aftereffects of the situation are profound. Taking on the cleanup task personally only makes the grief and bereavement process even more challenging. Thus, professional assistance is advisable.
